MOVE THE HELL OUT OF COOK COUNTY

On July 1, 2017, Cook County will be implementing a Soda Tax. This is not a tax on just soda, but any sugary or artificially flavored beverage. For instance, soda, sports drinks, iced tea, lemonade, juice, any flavored water you can think of will be taxed a penny per ounce. "A penny per ounce, you say? That's nothing! Stop complaining!" If a penny per ounce sounds like practically nothing, let us do the math.
A case of Coca-Cola is 12 cans. Every can is 12 fl oz. Each can will be taxed .12 cents.
.12 cents x 12 = 1.44.
$1.44 will be added onto your bill which does not include any tax that you already pay at the register (roughly 10%). The Soda Tax will be anywhere from 30% to 60% - if you are not purchasing anything bigger than 2 liters. So, can I get a "Thanks, Democrats!" I thought the Democrats loved the middle class? Along with the lower class? Right? Is that not who they advocate? SUPPOSEDLY? This WILL hurt the middle and lower class as well as anything in between. There are many, many families who do weekly or monthly budgeting on their groceries, who count every single penny. There will be tons of consumers who will make the extra drive to do their grocery shopping - at least for drinks - outside of Cook County and buy in bulk. In a report from WGN News, Lake, McHenry, Kane, DuPage, and Will County will not be affected. You BET your butt-cheeks people will be driving to those counties to buy juice for their kids in bulk. People will drive to Indiana to buy in bulk as well. What's the big deal? It is a cycle. Hurting the consumers with this tax means the local grocery store that serves those consumers is being indirectly affected. This will make it harder for small businesses to stay afloat. The Chicago Democrats, along with any Democrat really, feed off of the vulnerability of the middle and lower class and uneducated. Will they be able to stump them with this tax? Not likely. People are not dumb when it wiggles down to paying their grocery bills or restaurant bills. They WILL notice that unnecessary 30% to 60% tax added onto their bill. I work in a restaurant and, I have MANY customers who bring enough money to pay for their meal because they do not want to spend any more than that. That is the REALITY.
Who will not be affected?
The Soda Tax does not affect those receiving benefits from the federal food stamp program. Couple things on that. Flaw #1: Why not? In my personal opinion, they should be included. They're not special. What they should not be allowed to buy is luxury food like filet mignon or lobster with their dang link card. If a hard-working citizen with a good paying job can not afford to buy that every two weeks, why should they? Flaw #2: TRUST ME WHEN I SAY THIS: individuals who are in the lower class and are not on the link card or food stamps will go out of their way to apply for it just because of this tax. Please trust me on this. I really do not and would not put it past them to do that.
If you're an Illinois Democrat reading this, I HAVE QUESTIONS FOR YOU!
- HOW LONG DO YOU THINK IT IS GOING TO TAKE CONSUMERS TO NOTICE $1.44 ON A CASE OF 12 CANS OR $2.88 ON A CASE OF 24 CANS OF SODA? Not long.
- HOW LONG DO YOU THINK IT IS GOING TO TAKE FOR SOMEONE TO NOTICE WHAT COUNTIES THEY DRIVE THROUGH ON THEIR REGULAR ROUTE TO WORK? Again, not long.
- HOW LONG DO YOU THINK IT IS GOING TO TAKE FOR A FAMILY OF FOUR TO NOTICE THE SEVERAL EXTRA DOLLARS ADDED ONTO THEIR BILL WHEN THEY DINE AT A COOK COUNTY RESTAURANT? Of course, not long.
If you live in Cook County get the hell out before July 1st.
Just. Get. Out.
Goodbye, Cook County. Goodbye hospitality businesses. Goodbye local grocery stores. Goodbye beginner-skill building jobs.
Honestly, just say goodbye to Illinois as a whole because the Illinois Democrats are ruining this entire state little by little and piece by piece.
